FUE vs DHI vs FUT — a patient-level comparison

Updated 2026-09-11 · 58 clinics in the index

FUE (follicular unit extraction) removes grafts one by one with a micro-punch. There is no linear scar. Most German practices in our index offer FUE. Quality depends on who punches, who implants, and how dense the donor is — not on a marketing name such as Sapphire or Neo.

DHI (direct hair implantation) is an FUE variant: grafts are placed with an implanter pen, without a separate channel-opening step. Some Munich and Berlin practices market DHI as a unique selling point. Medically it remains an implantation technique, not a different hair.

FUT (strip harvest) removes a strip from the back of the scalp. The linear scar can show with short hair. In return, a session can sometimes spare a thin donor. VDHC practices and older hair surgeons still use FUT for selected repairs.

ARTAS is a robot-assisted FUE system. In Germany it is publicly associated with Kosmed Hamburg, Dr. Alamouti in Bochum, and Munich Hair Transplant. A robot does not replace hairline design.

PRP, mesotherapy and micropigmentation are not transplants. They appear in tables because clinics sell them alongside surgery. KLAR does not treat them as proof of an operating room.
